I am passionate about fabulous food and wonderful wine. For me, there is nothing better than eating and drinking with friends in an atmospheric restaurant.

I would spend my last penny on a good lunch or dinner and over the years I have spent more than a few pennies eating in some of the best restaurants in the world.

I've expanded my waist-line in the food capitals of the world - Paris, New York and London.

I thought I would list my 10 favourite restaurants, but I've a lot more than 10 so I've decided to list a selection and add others when I have a spare minute or when I discover another gastronomic gem.

Some of the restaurants I've listed have been named as among the best in the world. They tend to be expensive, but are worth every penny.

Others are little known regional restaurants where you get great food, great wine and unbelievable value for money.

The list is of course biased towards where my heart lies - Florida, London, Monaco, Spain and, of course, Scotland

If you are passing, please give them a try - I promise you won't regret it.

My favourite wines, on the other hand, are all expensive. I'd rather drink Adam's wine than cheap plonk and I'm afraid that's reflected in my cellar.

I'm not that keen on new world wines. I prefer French and Italian to Australian and American - and I prefer reds to whites.

I have, however, sipped more than my fair share of new world wines and I have included a couple of my personal favourites in the list which, like my restaurant guide, will grow as I find the time or inspiration to pen a few more words.
